The Lonarc Oboe Trio was formed in 1991
Joseph Sanders, Owen Dennis and Judy Proctor are all graduates of the Royal Academy of Music.
Experienced orchestral musicians, they have between them, played in every Symphonic, Chamber, Opera and Ballet Orchestra in the UK. James Horan, an original founding member was appointed Principal Cor Anglais with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 1998.
We are currently in the process of recording all the original Oboe Trios written c Vienna 1790-1800, mostly commissioned by Prince Joseph Johann Anton Karl von Schwarzenberg and written for the Teimer brothers - Johann, Philipp and Franz.
We are working directly from the urtext scores housed at the Cesky Krumlov archives and shall be publishing our LOT editions of these original 18th century Oboe Trios along with the original Oboe Trio arrangements and compositions of James Horan through Lonarc Oboe Trio Publishing so that other Trios can enjoy them. You can purchase these, along with current recordings to download, on this website.
To perform the Went Quartetto Concertante for Oboe, Oboe d'Amore, Cor Anglais and Bassoon we have formed the Lonarc Double Reed Quartet and so are very pleased to introduce Adrian Rowlands and Michael Elderkin who will play with us at IDRS24 in Flagstaff.
The trio and quartet members all play on Marigaux instruments and Judy plays on a Hiniker B13 silver crook.
Michael plays on a Heckel bassoon and crook.

Joseph has played Principal Oboe with every major orchestra and Chamber Ensemble group in the UK as well as Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
As a member of Ensemble Modern/Frankfurt for over 20 years, he worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Hans Werner Henze, Helmut Lachenmann, Klaus Huber, Heinz Holliger, Oliver Knussen, George Benjamin, Steve Reich, Peter Eötvös, György Kurtag, Emmanuel Nunes, Maurizio Kagel, John Cage and many more.
Since 2008 he has played extensively as guest principal oboe for the London Symphony Orchestra, under Valery Gergiev, Sir Colin Davis, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Harding and Kristjan Järvi etc.
In 1988-91 Joseph trained to be an Alexander Technique Teacher with Patrick Macdonald. He has been the Alexander Technique Teacher for the National Youth Orchestra since 2005. He co-organized the 7th International Conference for Alexander Teachers in Music Education, hosted by Guildhall School of Music and Dramain May 2009 and he has also taken Alexander Technique classes for Leipzig Musikhochschule, Oxford University & Conservatory in Valetta, Malta.
Owen Dennis BA (Hons) Cantab LRAM
Read Mathematics at Cambridge University before studying the oboe at the RAM with Dougie Boyd and then at the Rotterdam Conservatoire with Emmanuel Abbuel.
He won the RAM Leila Bull Prize for Oboe, RPO Martin Fund Award, Countess of Munster Musical Trust Scholarship and was a Royal Oversea's League Wind/Brass finalist in 1999.
He is a founder member of the Galliard Ensemble (Wind Quintet) who were BBC Radio 3 New Generation artists 2002-4. They were also nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for their discography of 5 Cd’s including critically acclaimed recording of Birwistle chamber music.
Owen joined the Lonarc Oboe Trio in 2007 when they reformed after being offered a residency with the Grosvenor Estate Summer Festival for outdoor classical chamber concerts at Brown Hart Gardens and also at Spitalfields.
Owen has recently being playing with London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, City of London Sinfonia and Mozart Players amongst others.
As a soloist Owen has given recitals at the QEH, St James' Piccadilly, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Queens' College, Cambridge. He has performed the Mozart Oboe Concerto with the Portobello Orchestra in St Peter's, Kensington and Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe with the Nascot Symphony, Corpus Christi Orchestra and Trinity College, Cambridge.
Owen is experienced at giving educational workshops with the Galliard Ensemble, the Lonarc Oboe Trio and City of London Sinfonia. He also teaches Mathematics at Eastbourne College
Judy Proctor GRSM (Hons) LRAM
Judy was a Junior Macfarlane Exhibitioner at the RSAMD where she studied with Philip Hill and Robin Miller before coming to study at the RAM with George Caird where she was a member of the Manson Ensemble with Paul Patterson.
A keen chamber musician, on graduation as well as playing with various chamber, opera and ballet orchestras she played many solo recitals with Nicholas Bosworth and was instrumental in setting up the Lonarc Oboe Trio in 1991 and then the Lonarc Wind Quintet in 2008 and Lonarc Wind Ensemble in 2012, having resumed playing professionally after a 7 year break.
In 2011 she performed Aaron Coplands 'Quiet City' with The Keld Ensemble. She then went to USA to attend a masterclass with Carolyn Hove (the Cor Anglais player with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra) where she gave the US Premiere of 'Billingbear' (2009) by Judith Bingham for solo Cor Anglais. In 2014 she played the Marcello Oboe Concerto at St Martin-in-the-Fields with the Keld Ensemble and also with Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra in Muscat.
Orchestrally she has played with amongst others: Philharmonia, BBCSO, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, BBCNOW, Irish Symphony Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Ulster Philharmonic, Orchestra of St John's Smith Square, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Mozart Players, English National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Welsh National Opera, London Sinfonietta, Platform Ensemble as well as Orquestra do Porto and Orquestra do Norte in Portugal,
Her TV, Film and West End Show work includes - Oranges are Not the Only Fruit, Youth, South Pacific, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
She has taught the oboe at Winchester College, Benenden School, the Royal Oman Symphony and Muscat Royal Philharmonic Schools. Currently she is oboe tutor for LCM Junior department and CYMSH and has taken part in educational workshops with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra do Norte and Lonarc Oboe Trio, as well as coaching the oboes for the Edinburgh and Essex Youth Orchestras.
Adrian Rowlands Dip RAM
Adrian started his musical studies at Dartington College of Arts. From there, he won a scholarship to attend at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied oboe with Gordon Hunt, cor anglais with Christine Pendrill and period oboes with Anthony Robson.
Adrian plays oboe, oboe d'amore, cor anglais and bass oboe.
Since graduating, Adrian has pursued a freelance career as an orchestral, session and chamber player.
He has been invited as guest principal with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, English National Opera Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and City of London Sinfonia, as well as playing with nearly every major symphony and chamber music orchestra in the UK.
His Film, TV and West End Show work includes The Madness of King George, The Crown and Les Miserables amongst many others.
As a teacher, Adrian has taught privately in schools and has tutored on many music courses and in music colleges. He is also on the teaching staff at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and London College of Music.
Michael Elderkin BMus (Hons)
Michael attended the Eastman School of Music, studying with John Hunt and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Daniel Jamieson and Dominic Morgan.
Michael plays both bassoon and contra bassoon, performing internationally as an orchestra, chamber and session musician with amongst others the London Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia and London Mozart Players.
Now residing in London, Michael is a frequent session player recording with the major session fixers and also works out of his home studio recording remotely for Amazon, Apple TV+, Disney and Audio Network amongst others.
In addition to performing, Michael also composes and orchestrates within the medium of film, TV and musical theatre. His musical 'Mascherato', has been praised as "a score that is of the highest quality" and having "the colour, warmth and escapism of the best of what we love in musicals and the familiar-yet-new resonance of what Ashman and Menken did for the Disney renaissance".
He has orchestrated for films including "Mission Impossible:Fallout", "His Dark Materials", "Black Widow" and the upcoming "Eyes of Wakanda".
James Horan BMus Dip RAM LRAM ARAM
James began the oboe at 14 years of age. In his formative years he won scholarships to Chethams School of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, and the prestigious German Government Scholarship (DAAD) to study at the Stattliche Hochschule fur Musik, Karlsruhe, in Germany, with renowned International Oboe Soloist, Thomas Indermuhle.
He won many prizes and awards during these years, winning the Oboe Prize at both the RAM, London, and the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik, Karlsruhe, as well as being awarded the Principal’s Prize in his final year at the RAM.
Having worked with many of Britain’s Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, he also enjoyed a stint as Principal Oboe with Orquestra do Norte, Portugal, before becoming Solo Principal Cor Anglais with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 1998.
A few years after this he was appointed Oboe Tutor at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire where he also gives regular classes in the Art of Reed Making, an invaluable part of any Oboist’s technique.
A founder member of the Lonarc Oboe Trio, James wrote his incredible portfolio of oboe trio compositions and arrangements 1993-96 inspired by his time performing with Judy and Joseph. As such emulating both Johann Wenth and Josef Triebensee who as oboists wrote their works for the Teimer brothers to perform.
Marigaux Oboe Manufacturers
Marigaux, has over the past 80 years, forged it’s enviable reputation for creating instruments that ‘sing’ and resonate with a distinctive breadth and fluidity, that is highly prized and much admired amongst the international professional oboe community. As a result the Marigaux instrument is now associated with some of the greatest living oboe players throughout the world; its reputation ever continuing to assert itself.
On 12th January 1935, Strasser Marigaux was founded by three associates: Mr Strasser, Mr Marigaux and Mr Lemaire, hence the abbreviation of the former company SML. Marigaux started in Paris, 144 bd. de la Villette with the manufacture of saxophones and flutes. In parallel with this they also introduced the making of oboes and clarinets at a workshop in La Couture Boussey, a town in Normandy well-known as a centre of French craftsmanship for wind instruments.
In 1975, Marigaux bought the company Malerne and was then able to transfer its whole production from these workshops into a more spacious factory.
In 1981 Marigaux abandoned the manufacture of all other instruments to devote itself entirely to the improvement and development of oboes and clarinets.
In 2005, Marigaux disrupted the traditional world of oboe manufacturing with the introduction of the totally revolutionary M2 model. The worldwide patented and unequalled oboe with interchangeable head joints. M2 redefines the concept of tuning, ergonomics and pleasure for every professional oboe player.
Since its creation, many things in the company have changed and developed.
However, today its production is proudly still totally Made in France.

Marigaux is very much concerned to keep working with the top professional oboists of the day, in order to take into account their needs and dreams. The Marigaux oboe is a first choice instrument throughout the world today. It is exported to around 60 different countries and is played in the most renowned orchestras world-wide. This success is a result of the combining talents of technician teams and musicians.
