This 18th century oboe trio was composed by Josef Triebensee (1772-1846). The Theme comes from Josef Haydn's Symphony No 94 "The Surprise".

Son of Georg Triebensee  who was principal oboe in the Schwarzenberg Wind Harmonie founded in  1771.  Then principal oboe in the Imperial Harmonnie and Burg Theatre performing in the premieres of Mozart's operas Die Enfuhring aus dem Seraglio', Cosi fan Tutti', Marraige of Figaro'.

So Josef grew up with a great oboist in his home.

Josef, himself performed 2nd oboe in the premiere of Mozart's 'Magic Flute', alongside Ignaz Teimer - father of the infamous Teimer Oboe Trio brothers played piccolo with Mozart conducting.

Josef went on to become Kappellmeister for Prince Lichtenstein and then became Director of Prague Opera House.

He was aso married to Johann Went's eldest daughter Maximiliana, and on Went;s death he became Trustee alongside his wife of Went's compositions. He is credited with introducting Contra Bassoon parts into his Wind Harmonies as the instrument became more widely used.

The parts have been edited with reference to the urtext manuscripts found in the Český Krumlov Library by Professor Joseph Sanders MA (Cantab) Dip.RAM, ARAM (b1956)
